Dear Participants of the UN Global Compact,

With 2023 underway, there’s no doubt we live in a fragile, fractured world. The war in Ukraine, energy and food crises, climate change, extreme weather, threats to democracy, the ongoing pandemic and many other headwinds like inflation, currency fluctuation and looming recession undermine our efforts for a sustainable world.

These are global challenges we must rally behind addressing. Let’s make sure that 2023 is a year that turns the tide back to progress. Solutions are always near. We have a number of important opportunities in front of us that can contribute to a more sustainable and inclusive world.

With the world facing extraordinary crises, the UN Global Compact and its 62 Local Networks are supporting companies to take measurable, accountable actions for a sustainable world. It’s the right thing to do and good for business.

According to the Office of the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees, more than 4 million Ukrainians have left the country, losing their homes, jobs, and sources of income. Moreover, 79% of Ukrainian companies were forced to stop entirely or almost entirely operating. Even after the end of hostilities, Ukrainians will not be able to immediately return home due to economic crisis, destroyed infrastructure and other factors that will take time to resolve.

UN Global Compact Network Ukraine, together with UN Global Compact Network Poland, launched the “Give a job for UA project”. The initiative aims to help Ukrainian refugees with employment and offers businesses from around the world an opportunity to support Ukraine by hiring them.

L’1 e il 2 giugno si terrà il Leaders Summit 2022 promosso dall’UN Global Compact. Leader politici e aziendali, rappresentanti della società civile, del mondo accademico e delle Nazioni Unite, provenienti da tutto il mondo, si confronteranno sul ruolo che può ricoprire il settore privato per promuovere il raggiungimento degli Obiettivi di Sviluppo Sostenibile.
L’edizione 2022, che prevede varie sessioni plenarie da remoto e un evento in presenza a Bangkok focalizzato sul tema sostenibilità nell’area Asia-Pacifico, sarà l’occasione per fare il punto sui risultati finora raggiunti dal settore privato nel percorso verso la sostenibilità, approfondire le tematiche e le tendenze globali, analizzare le risorse e gli strumenti necessari per fissare obiettivi ambiziosi e misurabili ed accelerare i progressi verso gli SDGs.

Cari partecipanti al Global Compact delle Nazioni Unite,
siamo da poco entrati nel 2023 e viviamo in un mondo fragile e profondamente diviso. La guerra in Ucraina, la crisi energetica ed alimentare, il cambiamento climatico, i fenomeni meteorologici estremi, le minacce alla democrazia, la pandemia e numerosi altri eventi avversi come l’inflazione, le oscillazioni monetarie e la recessione incombente, minano i nostri sforzi per un mondo sostenibile. Sono sfide globali che dobbiamo affrontare insieme: facciamo sì che nel 2023 si punti nuovamente al progresso. Abbiamo a disposizione diverse soluzioni ed una serie di importanti opportunità che possono contribuire alla creazione di un mondo più sostenibile e inclusivo.

Secondo quanto emerge dal CEO Study, condotto dal Global Compact delle Nazioni Unite e Accenture, gli amministratori delegati si trovano ad operare in un contesto globale estremamente complesso: il 93% degli AD coinvolti sta infatti incontrando 10 o più difficoltà simultanee nella gestione del proprio business e l’87% teme che le discontinuità in atto limiteranno il conseguimento degli Obiettivi di Sviluppo Sostenibile (SDGs) delle Nazioni Unite. Sebbene gli amministratori delegati siano sempre più preoccupati da questo contesto, concordano quasi all’unanimità (98%) sulla crucialità della sostenibilità per lo svolgimento delle proprie attività, un sentimento cresciuto di 15 punti percentuali negli ultimi 10 anni.

Il 12esimo CEO Study dell’UN Global Compact e Accenture raccoglie informazioni da più di 2.600 AD provenienti da 128 paesi e operanti in 18 settori industriali, approfondite in oltre 130 interviste: si tratta del più grande campione mai preso in esame, a livello globale, dall’avvio del CEO Study Program nel 2007. Nell’analisi, i manager mettono in guardia sul rischio della convergenza di fattori altamente impattanti per le imprese e la società, quali la fragilità del multilateralismo e l’instabilità socioeconomica, la discontinuità nelle catene di fornitura e gli effetti immediati del cambiamento climatico.

CEOs are facing an enormously challenging global context, with the vast majority (93%) experiencing 10 or more simultaneous challenges to their businesses and 87% warning that current levels of disruption will limit delivery of the UN Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), finds the largest CEO study on sustainability ever conducted by the UN Global Compact and Accenture (NYSE: ACN). While CEOs are increasingly concerned about these headwinds, nearly all (98%) agree that sustainability is core to their role, a sentiment that has grown 15 percentage points over the last 10 years of the study.

The 12th United Nations Global Compact-Accenture CEO Study draws on insights from more than 2,600 CEOs across 128 countries, 18 industries, and over 130 in-depth interviews — making this the largest-ever sampling of executives, including the biggest group of CEOs from the Global South, since the start of the CEO study program in 2007. In the study, CEOs forewarn about the impact of converging setbacks for business and society, from faltering multilateralism and socioeconomic instability to supply-chain interruptions and the immediate effects of climate change.

In occasione della settimana di apertura della 77° Assemblea Generale delle Nazioni Unite, UN Global Compact promuove l’evento internazionale multi-stakeholder “Uniting Business Live”.

La tre giorni riunirà capi di Stato e di governo, esperti di sostenibilità aziendale e leader d’impresa, oltre a rappresentanti delle Nazioni Unite e delle organizzazioni della società civile, per fare il punto sui risultati ottenuti dal settore privato nell’avanzamento dell’Agenda 2030, stimolare l’ambizione e l’impegno delle imprese per il raggiungimento di uno sviluppo sostenibile e promuovere la creazione di soluzioni collaborative e concrete.

In data 28 aprile 2022, i Membri Fondatori dell’UN Global Compact Network Italia hanno eletto il nuovo Consiglio Direttivo che guiderà la rete locale del Global Compact delle Nazioni Unite fino alla primavera del 2025. Fra i tredici professionisti della sostenibilità eletti ieri dall’Assemblea, diverse conferme rispetto al precedente mandato e nuovi prestigiosi ingressi. Marco Frey è stato nominato Presidente per il terzo mandato consecutivo.

In occasione dell’apertura della 76esima sessione dell’Assemblea Generale delle Nazioni Unite, l’UN Global Compact organizza l’evento “Uniting Business LIVE” che si terrà dal 20 al 22 settembre 2021 e riunirà virtualmente i leader di Governi, imprese e società civile per fare il punto sull’avanzamento dell’Agenda 2030 per lo Sviluppo Sostenibile, identificando sfide in essere e soluzioni collettive.

On 29 June 2022, Sanda Ojiambo - Assistant Secretary-General and CEO of the UN Global Compact, met with the Board of Directors of the UN Global Compact Network Italy. The meeting, held at the Circolo degli Esteri in Rome, was an extraordinary opportunity for discussion and exchange on achievements, challenges and future scenarios in the Decade of Action for Sustainable Development. The Italian Network presented also its trends over the last few years, showing a tremendous increase in the number of companies that support and apply the Ten Principles of the Global Compact and are engaged on critical issues such as Climate Action and Gender Equality.
