The latest meeting of the Global Compact Network Italy Foundation’s "Business & Human Rights" Working Group (GCNI Foundation) was held on 12th November at the Maire Tecnimont headquarters in Milan.
The day was divided into two parts:
- morning: Testing of Training Package on "Business and Human Rights" aimed at corporate training managers and those in organizations. The package was developed by the GCNI Foundation in collaboration with the Management Institute of the Scuola Superiore Sant'Anna in Pisa;
- afternoon: European Peer Learning Group exchange, focusing on: Human Rights Due Diligence in the Supply Chain and other business relationships. This second phase involved the participation of several companies belonging to the German and Spanish Local Networks of the Global Compact.
"Business and Human Rights" Training Package
The purpose of the training package is to raise participants’ awareness about human rights by providing basic information and possible interpretations to be used in the everyday work life, in a process of recognition, from a business mindset, of a theme usually considered to be purely institutional.
The course is open to the top two corporate levels - basically to all those who are in positions of responsibility and coordination. It has a modular structure – lasts a minimum of 4 hours - which allows flexibility and adaptability to the different operational realities and characteristics of participants. Some online activities can also be expected.
This approach leads to focusing on not only on human rights violations but also their promotion.
It mainly uses an active teaching/experiential approach with the intention of bringing participants closer to issues which are perceived as complex and distant through direct experience.
