Since 2020, the United Nations Global Compact has launched several Accelerators – programmes designed to embed SDG-aligned practices deep into business operations to accelerate globally progress and impact for the 2030 Agenda in the areas of climate change, gender equality, integration of the SDGs into business strategy, and empowerment of youth.

Available to participating companies of the UN Global Compact, the Accelerators are implemented in close collaboration with Global Compact Local Networks and are designed with a view to generating behaviour change across a large number of companies at the local level - achieving maximum impact and scale. The Italian Network has joined three programmes: Climate Ambition Accelerator, Target Gender Equality and Business & Human Rights Accelerator.

CLIMATE AMBITION ACCELERATOR

Climate Ambition Accelerator is a six-month accelerator programme designed to provide participating companies with the knowledge and skills they need to accelerate progress towards setting science-based emissions reduction targets aligned with the 1.5℃ pathway, setting them on a path towards net- zero emissions by 2050.

Companies participating in the Climate Ambition Accelerator have the opportunity to: gain a clear understanding of the Science Based Targets Initiative (SBTi) and the net-zero concept; develop their skills to attract investors; motivate business leaders, employees, and shareholders on Climate Action; get access to networking opportunities; and hear experts’ testimony.

In 2024, the Italian Network of UNGC has implemented the third edition of the Accelerator with the support of Carbonsink.

TARGET GENDER EQUALITY

Target Gender Equality is a nine-month accelerator programme designed to provide participating companies with the knowledge and skills they need to set and reach ambitious corporate targets for women’s representation and leadership, strengthening their contribution SDG 5 - Gender Equality.

Companies participating in Target Gender Equality have the opportunity to deepen implementation of the Women's Empowerment Principles (WEPs); participate in capacity-building workshops and peer-to-peer learning group meetings at the national level; and hear experts’ testimony on how to accelerate progress on gender equality.

In 2024, the Italian Network of UNGC has implemented the third edition of the Accelerator with the support of Jakala.

BUSINESS & HUMAN RIGHTS ACCELERATOR

Business & Human Rights Accelerator is a 6-month accelerator programme designed to provide participating companies with the knowledge and skills needed to set and achieve ambitious corporate goals for the promotion and protection of human and labor rights and develop effective due diligence processes.

Companies participating in the program have the opportunity to identify and assess the negative impacts - actual and potential - of their activities on human and workers' rights; identify what mitigation and remedial actions need to be taken in order to reduce these impacts; and complete a human rights due diligence process in line with international standards.

In 2024, the Italian Network of UNGC has implemented the first edition of the Accelerator with the support of Pirelli.
