In 2021, UNGCN Italy established the Observatory Diversity & Inclusion in the workplace with the aim of collecting the experiences and perspectives in the field of Diversity & Inclusion of large Italian companies participating in the UN Global Compact.

About 20 business players operating in the banking, energy and multi-utility, agribusiness and technology sectors are currently involved in the activities of the Observatory, which is a “place” for sharing initiatives, projects, strategic approaches on the issues of inclusive leadership and equal opportunities and treatment, considering specific groups of people: women, migrants, and the youth. Special attention is also given to the issue of disability management.

The working group is coordinated by UNGCN Italy and is enriched by contributions from the International Labour Organization - ILO and the Italian Association of Staff Management - AIDP.

As part of the Observatory, it was produced a guidance document, called “Guidelines on Diversity & Inclusion in the workplace”. The Paper - available also in English - collects several business best practices on “Principle 6” of the UN Global Compact, which calls on the global private sector to eliminate all forms of discrimination in employment and occupation.

For the 2023, the goal of the Observatory is to draft a policy proposal on D&I aimed at companies of all sizes and sectors.
