Dear UN Global Compact Participant,

Welcome to the Decade of Action: As we enter into 2020, allow me to share with you some reflections about my fears, hopes and great expectations for an important year — at the threshold of a critically important new decade that UN Secretary-General António Guterres has named the “Decade of Action".

I fear that we are running out of time: At the startline for the Decade of Action, the world is falling badly behind in the race to avert the climate crisis. 2019 was the hottest year on record, concluding the hottest decade on record. And the trend is set to continue. In November 2019, 11,000 climate scientists sounded the alarm, saying the Earth is “clearly and unequivocally” facing a climate emergency and warning that we are running out of time to reverse the trend. 

We are all impacted by climate change. Heatwaves, wildfires, storms, droughts, floods and rising sea levels are threatening the livelihoods and safety of billions of people. For some, survival relies on global leadership and action NOW. In May 2019, the UN Secretary-General visited Tuvalu, a country that, together with other island countries in the Pacific Ocean, faces sea-level rise four times greater than the global average. And yet, despite hard scientific data and living proof, we all left disappointed from COP 25 in Madrid and its urgent call to Governments to transition away from dependence on fossil fuels. In fact, rather than falling, CO₂ emissions continue to rise.

L’UN Global Compact Network Italia pubblica il suo Report sulle Attività 2020.

Dai numeri dell’iniziativa internazionale ai progetti realizzati al livello locale, Vi raccontiamo un altro anno d’impegno, al fianco di aziende ed organizzazioni, per la promozione dello sviluppo sostenibile attraverso i Dieci Principi dell’UN Global Compact e l’Agenda 2030 delle Nazioni Unite.

Il Report si rivolge principalmente all’UN Global Compact Office, agli altri Local Network attivi nel mondo, secondo una logica di scambio sinergico, a tutti gli attori business e non businessdel territorio nazionale che fanno parte del grande movimento UN Global Compact. Infine, ma non meno importanti, agli esperti, appassionati e ai curiosi dei temi della sostenibilità e dell’economia etica.

dalla parte dell’ambiente, delle persone e delle comunità!

Si sta per chiudere un anno molto difficile, a causa della deflagrazione della pandemia di Covid-19 e ai suoi altissimi costi al livello umano, sociale ed economico. Il 2020 è stato, però, anche un anno importante per il Network italiano del Global Compact e, più in generale, per lo sviluppo sostenibile. Abbiamo, infatti, celebrato il primo Ventennale dell’UN Global Compact e inaugurato la “Decade of Action” per la realizzazione dell’Agenda ONU entro il 2030.

Di concerto con il Global Compact Office di New York e gli altri Network Locali, in particolare quelli europei, è stata lanciata una nuova call to action alle imprese di tutto il mondo per uno sforzo straordinario nell’integrazione dei Dieci Principi UNGC e dei diciassette SDGs al livello strategico, considerando non solo la dimensione interna ma l’intera sfera d’influenza delle organizzazioni, valutando i propri impatti sul mercato, a partire dalle catene di fornitura, sino all’intera comunità e alle istituzioni.
