On May 15, 2017 the Shareholders’ Meeting approved the first A2A Integrated Report according to the IIRC framework, an evolution of the Sustainability Report, which maintains the level of completeness through reference to GRI-G4 criteria. The Group has committed itself to achieving the UN 2030 Sustainable Development objectives, aiming to take on a leading role in the creation of a new, low carbon, circular economy based on networks and smart services. In particular, A2A has developed ideas and projects with communities through a multi-stakeholder involvement model.

In 2016, the Group generated and distributed a total added vale of 1,634 million euros and awarded 97% of supply contracts to Italian companies.  It reduced the average CO2 emission factor of all energy production (electrical and thermal) by 6%, also thanks to efficiency improvements on the plants; it has improved recovery of materials from waste, exceeding 600,000 tonnes of annual production capacity, amounting to over 80% of the sorted urban waste collected. In the municipalities served, sorted collection went from 55% to 56.2% also thanks to the launch of the new combined collection system in Brescia. Furthermore, through A2A Smart City, it has promoted research and development activities in IoT (“Internet of Things”) digital technologies to be applied to the management of services such as energy saving and mobility. Smart working has been launched for its employees and it has committed to disseminating a culture of sustainability and environmental awareness in the reference communities by offering visits to the plants, workshops, digital tools and classroom-based talks which have involved over 29 thousand students and teachers.
